Getting Started with Tenaxis
This guide walks you through logging into Tenaxis for the first time and getting your workspace set up.
Signing In
Tenaxis uses your existing Microsoft 365 account - there is no separate password to create or remember.
- Go to your Tenaxis workspace URL (provided by your organization or during sign-up)
- Click Sign in with Microsoft
- You'll be redirected to Microsoft's login page - enter your work email address and password
- If your organization requires multi-factor authentication (MFA), complete that step as normal
- You'll be returned to Tenaxis, now logged in
Note: Tenaxis only works with organizational Microsoft accounts (e.g.,
yourname@yourcompany.com). Personal Microsoft accounts (Outlook, Hotmail) are not supported.
Your First Time: What You'll See
When you log in as an admin for the first time, you'll land on the Home Dashboard. This gives you an overview of your Microsoft 365 environment:
- Total Sites - how many SharePoint sites Tenaxis has visibility into
- Pending Requests - site requests waiting for your approval
- High-Risk Sites - sites with elevated security concerns
- Stale Sites - sites that haven't been used in a while
- Access Reviews - open reviews waiting to be completed
If your tenant is brand new to Tenaxis, most of these numbers will start at zero until you import your existing sites.
Importing Your Existing Sites
If you already have SharePoint sites in Microsoft 365, you'll want to bring them into Tenaxis so you can manage them.
- Go to Sites in the left sidebar
- Click Import Sites
- Tenaxis will show you a list of M365 Groups (which back SharePoint sites) in your tenant
- Select the ones you want to manage and click Import
- Tenaxis will import the sites and begin syncing membership data
Tip: If you have many sites, you can import them in batches. Start with your most sensitive or frequently used sites.
Setting Up Admins
By default, the person who connects Tenaxis to the Microsoft 365 tenant becomes the first Owner admin. You can add more admins right away.
- Go to Admins in the left sidebar
- Click Add Admin
- Search for the person by name or email
- Choose their role:
- Owner - full access, including adding/removing other admins and billing
- Admin - full governance access, cannot manage admins or billing
- Click Add
The number of admin seats available depends on your plan (1 seat on Starter, 5 on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise).
Recommended First Steps
Here's a suggested order for getting the most out of Tenaxis quickly:
Step 1 - Import your sites
Bring your existing SharePoint sites into Tenaxis so they appear in the dashboard. (See above)
Step 2 - Apply security policies
Go to Policies and review the four built-in security templates. Apply the appropriate one to each site based on its sensitivity. For example:
- HR and Legal sites → "Strict - HR / Legal"
- Internal project sites → "Project Team"
Step 3 - Configure lifecycle management
Go to Settings → turn on Lifecycle Management. Set how many days of inactivity before a site is flagged (default: 90 days). This automatically starts tracking stale sites.
Step 4 - Enable access reviews
Go to Settings → turn on Access Reviews and set the frequency (monthly, quarterly, or annually). This keeps your membership lists accurate.
Step 5 - Set up your first webhook (optional)
If you use Slack or Microsoft Teams for IT alerts, go to Settings → Webhooks and add a webhook URL so Tenaxis can notify your team when important events happen.
